Senior Product Line Manager

Austin, TX

The successful candidate will be a senior and visible member of the management team. The senior product line manager should be an engaging evangelist able to excite and motivate the team to achieve market based success for the product. The senior product line manager will work effectively with minimal supervision and will function as a key leader, coordinator and point of communication for teams across the company. He or she is responsible for establishing a cohesive working relationship with Sales, Engineering, Applications and the Customer to ensure the accurate interpretation and implementation of operational and business needs into detailed product requirements, functional specifications and product & marketing plans.

Duties in this role:

Lead all development and marketing initiatives for the product.                  Understanding what customers want and communicating that need to internal teams in a clear, systematic, motivating way.

Define customer applications for the product and craft product offers and product positioning to support these applications.                                                     Working with engineering, applications, marcomm, sales and service to deliver a compelling product that is differentiated and sharply articulated.                  Understanding the overall market landscape including competitors and potential partners.                                                                                                  Working on outbound marketing for the product, including sales force training, pricing, press and analyst presentations, data sheets, white papers, web site pages, and other key sales tools needed to influence and close deals.                                           Pitching influencers and decision makers at all levels of prospective customer companies, consulting engineers and contract engineers.         

Articulate a clear and compelling position, TCO and ROI for the product.                  Be responsible for the content posted to the product support areas of the company's intranet and sales extranets.

Requirements:      

5+ years experience in the critical power systems or power quality systems marketplace in a sales, marketing or product management role.                             At least 3+ years of successful product management with complex, cross-functional initiatives. Experience working with companies in power generation or uninterruptible power systems is necessary.

A strong technical background, a burning desire to build great products, and the leadership skills to lead cross organizational teams and resources to create critical product deliverables. Engineering experience, along with product management, a plus.

Proven success in driving organizations to deliver compelling customer-centric solutions with clear ROIs

Ability to translate probing conversations with customers into a compelling, clear, and actionable product plan

Track record of successfully defining, managing and launching products throughout the entire product life cycle.

Experience writing MRDs and PRDs (samples may be requested Master of effective communication with internal and external audiences, regardless of their position in the organization.

Experience marketing products to large enterprises, data centers, industrial operators, broadcasters and/ or heathcare markets desirable.

Bachelors Degree required. MBA a plus

Essential Functions:

Perform as a ‘customer expert’ by knowing customer needs and translating them into requirements. This includes collecting and researching customer future needs, identifying market trends and competitive trends, and determining product priorities.

Create detailed functional requirements and support engineering in validating the design of certain new product features with key customers; publish Business Requirements that describe both the internal business and external customer value for product enhancements to existing products. Work with cross-functional teams to publish Marketing Requirement Documents (MRD) based on the Business Requirements driven by customers and prospective customers and markets the company desires to penetrate.

Support the product internally by training marketing, sales, and support teams on new product release content in preparation for product launch; support the sales organization in pre-sales and post-sales activities related to product functionality; act as point of escalation for product issues. The Senior Product Line Manager is also responsible for keeping track of future development work, both items under active development and those yet to be approved, so that development team members, management, customers, and community members can plan appropriately

Perform indirect management of cross-functional teams and resources necessary to ensure the successful and timely definition, release, and ongoing enhancement of products. This requires working closely with Marketing, Engineering, Service and Sales Support. Participate actively in all stages of the development lifecycle; Works with engineering, marketing, and sales to communicate product status among the various groups and ensure coordination of activities
